Context
The SVP – Group Disclosures and Corporate Centre reports into the Senior Manager – External Reporting, and is part of the Group Entities financial control leadership team.
The Group Entities team sits at the heart of the Global Financial Control function and is responsible for the financial oversight and control of a number of distinct areas, including HSBC Holdings plc Finance Team, ServCo Financial Control, Financial Control Mergers and Acquisition, Finance Verification and Corporate Centre.
This role offers a driven individual the opportunity to support driving a demanding agenda in the Finance Verification and Corporate Centre areas specifically, while offering over time the opportunity to support the wider Group Entities team in driving global Financial Control priorities.
Finance verification and Corporate Centre
The team is responsible for:
Financial controllership over Group performance and outlook disclosures, including preparing Group quarterly business performance commentary and guidance messaging, ensuring key financial performance messages are articulated accurately, clearly and concisely to investors, regulators and other users.
Working collaboratively with global business finance teams to produce fair and balanced financial performance commentary.
Developing best in class disclosure – enhancing how we communicate our financial performance to the market through its interim and annual reports, and quarterly earnings releases
The oversight of business and financial controllership of Corporate Centre at a Group level.
The delivery of key Corporate Centre priorities, including the development of reporting, the operation of a robust financial control environment, raising the technical understanding of components of Corporate Centre, and also supporting the Group on the accounting of key commercial initiatives.
The role holder will work with senior business and finance stakeholders to ensure that HSBC’s external business performance disclosures are fair, balanced and understandable.
They will be responsible for working on all aspects of business performance, outlook and guidance messaging in external disclosures, to ensure our market disclosures are balanced, understandable and compliant with internal and external compliance requirements.
The role holder will support Corporate Centre decision making through the delivery of insightful and balanced materials to the Corporate Centre Executive Committee (attended by the Group CFO, Group Head of Strategy and Corporate Development, Group Treasurer and Corporate Centre CFO).
They will oversee the delivery and development of internal and external reporting requirements for Corporate Centre, and to ensure understanding of the drivers of Corporate Centre, and to ensure understanding of the drivers of Corporate Centre performance and its impact on Group results.
They will work closely with senior stakeholders across finance, including the Group CFO, Head of Finance, Global Financial Controller, Financial Controller – Group Entities, Global Head of Investor Relations, as well as key teams, including SP&ST, Treasury, Regulatory Reporting Accounting Policy.
They will help to formulate, implement, and ensure adherence to Corporate Centre policies, and to support in driving initiatives to optimise the Corporate Centre from a performance and capital perspective.

Impact on the Business/Function
The role holder will be accountable and responsible for controllership of Group disclosures as well as oversight of all internal and external reporting requirements for Corporate Centre. This includes, but is not limited to:
the review and preparation of external performance commentary to a market-leading standard, including providing supporting analysis and documentation;
verifying the accuracy and completeness of all relevant external disclosure;
monthly forecasts, Financial Resource Planning (‘FRP’), Stress Testing and reporting of actuals performance for Corporate Centre;
reporting that supports the monthly Corporate Centre ExCo and other senior leadership meetings, as well as any other reporting supporting ad-hoc requirements;
providing support to key global strategic projects and commercial initiatives at the direction of Corporate Centre ExCo, Group CFO, Global Financial Controller etc. including representation in key forums;
the formulation and implementation of Corporate Centre governance and retention policies, including the provision of related technical guidance and support to key stakeholders as well as robust challenge;
driving continuous improvement all team processes; and
ensuring a robust control environment around all reporting and data sources.

Support the retention of key talent, and the attracting and developing new talent and skills.
Work closely with, and effectively influence, a broad range of stakeholders across finance, including Strategic Planning and Stress Testing, legal entity Financial Controllers.
Engage with leads and colleagues across all functions and entities to promote consistency and teamwork.
Develop an understand existing processes and systems / data flows and the target end-state.
Design and enable training on transformation – with a particular focus on developing commercial acumen, business partnering capabilities and technical accounting knowledge.
Provide an escalation point for the resolution of issues and support the management of workloads to meet business critical deadlines.
Operational Effectiveness & Control:
Maintain and drive strong controls around data integrity and accuracy for all deliverables.
Adherence to Group policies, audit, controls, and compliance requirements including but not limited to Declaration of secrecy, data protection act, health, safety and security, clear desk policy.
To continually assess the operational risks inherent in the processes, taking account of changing operating procedures, staff movements, legal and regulatory requirements, management restructures, and the impact of new technology.
Ensure a robust control environment around all reporting and data sources, and ensure all policies are up to date and adhered to, escalating where appropriate.
Effectively drive and manage change, plan business contingency and achieve cross-training.
Ensuring BCP plan is documented, agreed with business partner and tested as per agreed timelines

The role holder will also continually reassess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
This will be achieved by ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring.
