The primary focus of this role is on MS SQL Server and cloud-based databases, with secondary expertise in Oracle databases. The DBA collaborates with cross-functional teams, including product engineers, software developers, and application mangers, to ensure efficient database operations.
The ideal candidate for this role will have IT infrastructure experience in both Cloud and On-premises database administration. Note: Because the role is part of a global team, the candidate must be able to work in shift model. Task and Responsibilities: Database Support: Provide support and administration for MS SQL Server databases and Cloud databases. Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues and incidents, including performance problems, connectivity errors, and data inconsistencies. Database Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize database performance by analyzing query execution plans, index usage, database statistics, and other performance indicators. Identify and resolve bottlenecks and performance issues to ensure optimal database response times. Database Security: Implement and enforce security measures to protect the organization’s databases from unauthorized access, data breaches, and data loss. Configure user access permissions, roles, and privileges based on the principle of least privilege. Database Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies to ensure the integrity and availability of the organization’s data. Perform regular backups, test restore procedures, and implement disaster recovery plans to minimize data loss and downtime. Database Monitoring and Maintenance: Monitor database health, availability, and capacity to proactively identify and resolve potential issues. Perform routine maintenance tasks such as database reorganization, index rebuilding, and database statistics updates. Database Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database configurations, schemas, procedures, and processes. Document database changes and update data dictionaries to ensure accuracy and clarity of database-related information. Database Upgrades and Patching: Plan and execute database software upgrades and apply patches to ensure database systems are up to date with the latest security fixes and performance enhancements. Coordinate with system administrators and vendors for a smooth upgrade process. Qualifications: Overall 5+ years experience as Database Administrator. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field. Experience with Azure cloud. Relevant industry certifications, such as Microsoft Certified Database Administrator, etc. is a plus. Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders. Technical skills Strong expertise in MS SQL Server database administration, including performance tuning, security, and backup and recovery. Proficiency in cloud-based database technologies, such as Microsoft Azure SQL Database, Microsoft Azure SQL Managed Instance and CosmosDB, including deployment, configuration, and performance optimization. Familiarity with Oracle database administration, including installation, configuration, performance tuning, and backup and recovery is a plus. Solid understanding of database concepts, SQL, and query optimization techniques. Knowledge of database security principles and best practices. Experience with database monitoring tools and performance analysis. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex database issues. Excellent documentation and communication skills.
